Diner a la Troupe Benefit Set for January 28th
Special Broadway Guest to Provide Entertainment
The Thomasville Music & Drama Troupe brings Broadway to Thomasville on Saturday, January 28th, during its second annual Diner a la Troupe fundraiser. Beginning with a cocktail buffet reception at the Piney Woods Farm home of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald N. Kadis, the evening will also feature the auction of several elegant Broadway-themed dinners and an intimate salon performance by a special Broadway guest! Singer-dancer-actor Tyrick Wiltez Jones of Broadway's Finian's Rainbow and Hairspray will provide entertainment for the evening's generous sponsors and guests. Diner a la Troupe will also showcase the talents of some of Troupe's student performers as well, who will present selections from successful Broadway musicals during the dinner auction portion of the benefit. Details will be announced soon, but reception tickets will be $75 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Thomasville Music & Drama Troupe's non-profit youth performing arts training program. For more information, contact event chairman Sugar Blount at (229) 403-7770.
The Thomasville Music and Drama Troupe is a group of 100 singing teen entertainers made up of students from area high schools. The group provides an outlet for creative expression and plays a meaningful, positive role in the lives of the area’s youth. A non-profit, tax-exempt performing arts training organization, the Troupe performs two revue-style shows annually, spotlighting its young performers singing and dancing to Billboard Top 40 hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s, right up to today's pop chart-toppers, as well as selections from popular Broadway musicals!
Founded in 1972, the Troupe has performed for audiences from 50 to 50,000. Some Troupe alumni take the training they've received and seek careers in entertainment fields. A few - like award-winning songwriter Stephanie Bentley (Faith Hill's Breath, Martina McBride's Concrete Angel), entertainment journalist Julie Moran and country music performer Steven Clawson (finalist on CMT's Next Country Superstar), among others - have enjoyed careers in the spotlight.
